10th doctor design

This year my family is going to dress up as Doctor Who characters. I never did follow through on the Star Wars costumes because they were complex and I was all that interested in making them. Now Doctor Who I very enthusiastic about.

My son is going as the 10th Doctor. I am not planning on being perfectly accurate on a costume that he will out grow within a year but I do want to make it look like it might be accurate. The coat is probably going to be the hardest part, apart from finding the prefect fabric for the suit that doesn’t cost $20/yard!

My daughter is going as Rose Tyler. I looked at all of Rose’s iconic outfits and decided the one she wore in the three episodes “Turn Left”, “Stolen Earth” and “Journey’s End”. I love the purple jacket with the pink shirt. The most complex part will be the jacket. The top and trousers are very simple so those will be no problem.

My husband is going at Captain Jack Harkness. The coat is going to be the hardest part. I want to make this as accurate as possible since this piece can be worn for years as a costume or even as a coat (I believe in making quality costumes even if it will be only worn once). The shirt and pants I may make or purchase. I do plan on also trying to make a Vortex Manipulator, which may be a bit tricky.

I am going as the Tardis, or at least as a female persona of the Tardis. I have seen may great costumes of women wearing Tardis inspired dresses. I plan on using a steampunk costume pattern to make the dress. This pattern is time consuming but not difficult.

Check out my board of reference photos, fabric swatches, pattern choices, etc…
